Up and Coming – October 2014

Sorry for not including the September Up and Coming. Sometimes life get’s in the way. Many thanks for those who saw my e-mail posting and came to visit me at the Big-E. Here is what’s happening in October.

Harvest the Arts at the Southington Apple Harvest Festival, October 11, 10 am – 2 pm.

I have been selling and signing my books at Harvest the Arts for the last two years. This year I will be joined by a group of nine other authors who are members of the American Authors and Publishers Guild and / or Southington residents. The group represents a wide range of genres in both fiction and non-fiction. Many of the books featured are award winners and / or best sellers. Just in time for early holiday shopping, autographed books make great gifts. For more information, see the Southington Apple Harvest website at http://www.southington.org/content/17218/18117/18136.aspx

Timeless Creativity at the Southington Care Center, October 12,  2 – 4 pm.

The second annual Arts and Crafts celebration Timeless Creativity will be hosted once again by the Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Ave, Southington, (860) 621-9559. This event features visual and written arts and crafts developed by the residents, staff and volunteers at the center. There will be beautiful artwork in various mediums. Quilt and needle work will include one piece that is over 140 years old! There will also be readings and book signings of prose and poetry including Joan LaRose’s newly released book Journey: Poems of Love, Laughter and Nature Along Life’s Pathways. I will also do a short reading from my writing and do signings of Amanda’s Room for those who want one. Refreshments will be served. Come and be prepared to be amazed!

The Art of Mystery Writing at the Arts at The Arts at Angeloria’s

Have you ever wondered what it is about a mystery that gets you hooked and how a thriller keeps you reading page after page? Have you ever considered writing your own? In the intimate turn of the century parlor setting of the Arts at Angeloria’s, 233 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike, Southington, (860) 426-9690, I will explore the art (and science) of mystery and thriller writing with a small group of current and future mystery writers. On October 15, we will look at the psychology of the mystery and the techniques writers use to catch and keep their reader’s attention. I will illustrate techniques with excerpts from books of some of the great mystery writers past and present. On October 27, participants will have the opportunity to learn from each other by sharing examples of the use of these techniques from their own writing. Cost is $35 for both nights and includes light refreshments. For more information visit The Arts at Angeloria’s Facebook page at:
